I don't think that has anything to do with PowerPoint - I remember lectures in the bad old days of chalk which were much the same. I think the main contributor to student boredom is having to listen to someone droning on in exactly the same style about the same thing for an hour, while you sit on an uncomfortable wooden bench. The only difference from a Victorian classroom is that the teacher is unlikely to beat you with a cane until you bleed.
(I get the impression that maybe 60% of lecturers find their lectures boring, which is probably the root of the problem).
